Banking on Art - Westpac Art Exhibition

In the inner Sydney suburb of Surry Hills Westpac and local artist David Naseby have joined forces to create the first ever art show, Desert Dancing, at the Bank’s Surry Hills branch.

Surry Hills, with its fascinating history and multi-cultural population, has attracted well-known writers and artists such as Ruth Park and Brett Whitely.

Jason Alan, Westpac Bank Manager Surry Hills is excited about the unique idea of giving exposure to a local artist through the Bank, providing a new experience to its customers.

“A large part of my role is to develop ties with local businesses and support their initiatives, and the community in this area is particularly vibrant with fashion designers, writers, musicians, and artists.

“I am excited for our customers who will experience something new when they walk into the branch after 24 March and see David’s  Desert Dancing work on the bank walls,” said Jason Alan.

Just around the corner from the branch is the Belvoir Street theatre, and in the other direction is Brett Whitely’s studio, making Surry Hills a very interesting community to be involved with.

The exhibition will feature a selection of paintings from David’s latest series Desert Dancing. A multiple Archibald Portrait Prize finalist, David created these paintings using a mixture of water and oil paints, and sand from a remote red desert dune to produce works extremely rich in colour and texture.

The exhibition opens on 24 March 2011 for 3 weeks.
